Marilyn Monroe quotes page 1

1926-1962 Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, as Norma Jean Baker, to film technician Gladys Mortenson. Due to her mother's mental illness overtaking her after birth, Monroe was placed into several foster homes and an orphanage throughout her childhood. At age 16, she left foster care after marrying 20-year-old James Dougherty, eventually working in an airline plant after Dougherty joined the U.S. Merchant Marine in 1943. She first worked as a parachute inspector, and then later as a paint sprayer. She eventually started modeling, once she discovered her photogenic capabilities after the government arrived to take promotional pictures of the women working in the plants. After taking a modeling course, she started working as a part time model. Three years later, Monroe divorced Dougherty, bleaching her hair blond and pursuing her acting dreams. She eventually came to Twentieth Century-Fox that August, signing a one-year contract that paid her $125 a month. A casting director, Ben Lyon, was the catalyst that made her change her stage name, suggesting Marilyn, while she added her grandmother's surname, Monroe. It was Monroe's appearance in the 1950 film Asphalt Jungle that started building her reputation as a "blonde bombshell." Her growing popularity made Twentieth Century-Fox sign her to a seven-year contract, leading to her appearing in a string of films, including All About Eve, Niagara and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Her famous role in 1955's The Seven Year Itch solidified her as a pop culture icon. By 1961, Monroe had experienced several personal troubles, including her divorce from Arthur Miller, preventing her from completing the film Something's Got To Give. In 1962, she was found dead in her apartment by her housekeeper, presumably from a possible suicide from barbiturate overdose.

my ways but the things that make me late are too strong, and too pleasing.
Marilyn Monroe

A career is wonderful, but you can't curl up with it on a cold night.

I want to grow old without facelifts. I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I've
made. Sometimes I think it would be easier to avoid old age, to die young, but then you'd
never complete your life, would you? You'd never wholly know you.
Marilyn Monroe

The nicest thing for me is sleep, then at least I can dream.
Marilyn Monroe

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genious, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous then
absolutely boring.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times
hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve
me at my best.

Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.

I believe everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go.
Things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they are right. You believe lies so you
eventually learn to trust no one but yourself. And some times, good things fall apart so
better things can fall together.

This life is what you make it. No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a
universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls
will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The
ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of
them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll
come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them
are going to break your heart, but you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find
your soulmate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything.
Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold
on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will,
sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling,
because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.
