Joanne K. Rowling quotes page 1

J.K. Rowling was born July 31st, 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England to Anne and Peter Rowling (an engineer of Rolls Royce aircraft). At the age of four, her family relocated to Winterbourne where she attended St. Michael's Primary School. As a young girl, she wrote many fantasy stories that she would often read to her younger sister. During her teen years, her mother became ill and she developed a difficult relationship with her father – to this day, she is still not on speaking terms with him. In 1993, her life was radically changed with the divorce of her husband, Jorge Arantes. She and her daughter moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. Rowling distinctly recalled having packed three chapters of the first Harry Potter book into her suitcase. Her inspiration for the Harry Potter series came to her while traveling back to London on a very crowded train. The book series was a labor of love, and allowed her to get out of her uncomfortable, cramped apartment while she wrote out at the local cafe. Her initial attempts to approach publishers with the book proved fruitless, but once the book was finally picked up it began flying off the shelves. Rowling went from a single mom living in poverty, to an author who is recognized around the world. She now lives with her two daughters, her son, and her husband, Neil Murray. Her most recent book was The Cuckoo's Calling, was published April of 2013. She hopes to go on to write many more successful novels of all genres.
