George Harrison quotes page 1

1943 - 2001; the lead guitarist for The Beatles, George Harrison was also a singer-songwriter for many of their most famous songs. He was born in Liverpool, England on February 25, 1943. History has it that he formed a band with friends from school and played clubs in Liverpool and also Hamburg, Germany. Harrison's diverse musical interests took The Beatles in a lot of directions, and they became the biggest rock band in the world. After the Beatles, Harrison did some solo records and floated a film production company. He passed away in 2001 of cancer. Harrison wasn't born into a wealthy family: his mom was mostly a stay-at-home mom while her husband drove a school bus. Harrison wasn't the best of the students in his class and what bit of interest he did have in school faded away when he discovered American rock 'n roll and the electric guitar. Mostly known as the "quiet Beatle", Harrison wound up taking a back seat to Lennon and McCartney, and to some degree Starr as well. He could, however be edgy and quick-witted. McCartney and Lennon drove the band from the beginning, but Harrison showed an early interest in making his own work. He spearheaded his first song in the summer of 1963, which made it onto their second album. From there on out, his songs were a staple for all of their records. His influence on the group went beyond singles, as Harrison also took an interest in some of the eastern instruments and their musical arrangements. For instance, he taught himself how to play the sitar. It could be said that his experimentation with different instruments helped pave the way for albums like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Revolver.

If you remember the 1960s, you weren't there.

George Harrison

The world used us as an excuse to go mad and then blamed it on us.
George Harrison

That's what the whole Sixties Flower-Power thing was about: "Go away, you bunch of boring
people."
George Harrison

I remember thinking I just want more. This isn't it. Fame is not the goal. Money is not the
goal. To be able to know how to get peace of mind, how to be happy, is something you don't
just stumble across. You've got to search for it.
George Harrison

When you've seen beyond yourself, then you may find, peace of mind is waiting there.
George Harrison

With our love, we could save the world.
George Harrison

As far as I'm concerned, there won't be a Beatles reunion as long as John Lennon remains
dead.
George Harrison

If everyone who had a gun just shot themselves, there wouldn't be a problem.
George Harrison

With every mistake, we must surely be learning.
George Harrison

We laughed a lot. That's one thing we forgot about for a few years - laughing. When we went
through all the lawsuits, it looked as if everything was bleak, but when I think back to before
that, I remember we used to laugh all the time.
George Harrison

Gossip is the Devil's radio.
George Harrison

I've been the same all along. I talk when I feel like it and I shut up when I don't feel like talking.
George Harrison

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.
George Harrison

I'll give up this sort of touring madness certainly, but music... everything is based on music.
No, I'll never stop my music.
George Harrison

I'm a tidy sort of bloke. I don't like chaos. I kept records in the record rack, tea in the tea
caddy, and pot in the pot box.
George Harrison

Anyway, there is one thing I have learned and that is not to dress uncomfortably, in styles which
hurt: Winklepicker shoes that cripple your feet and tight pants that squash your balls. Indian
clothes are better.
George Harrison

It is an outrage that people can take other people's lives when they obviously haven't got their
own lives in order.
George Harrison

The biggest break in my career was getting into the Beatles in 1962. The second biggest break
since then is getting out of them.
George Harrison

It's being here now that's important. There's no past and there's no future. Time is a very
misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we
can't relive it. And we can hope for the future, but we don't know if there is one.
George Harrison

The purpose of life is to find out "Who am I?", "Why am I here?" and "Where am I going?"
George Harrison

You can be standing right in front of the truth and not necessarily see it, and people only get
it when they're ready to get it.
George Harrison

Try to realize it's all within yourself no one else can make you change, and to see you're only
very small and life flows on within you and without you.
George Harrison

I'd rather be a musician than a rockstar.
George Harrison

I had no ambition when I was a kid other than to play guitar and get in a rock 'n' roll band. I
don't really like to be the guy in the white suit at the front. Like in the Beatles, I was the one
who kept quiet at the back and let the other egos be at the front.
George Harrison

Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another.
George Harrison

All religions are branches of one big tree. It doesn't matter what you call Him just as long as
you call. Just as cinematic images appear to be real but are only combinations of light and
shade, so is the universal variety a delusion. The planetary spheres, with their countless forms
of life, are naught but figures in a cosmic motion picture. One's values are profoundly changed
when he is finally convinced that creation is only a vast motion picture and that not in, but
beyond, lies his own ultimate reality.
George Harrison

We were the Spice Boys.
George Harrison

It is better to be an outspoken atheist than a hypocrite.
George Harrison

I wanted to show that Hallelujah and Hare Krishna are really the same thing.
George Harrison

In the end, this world will go under because of the stupidity of people.
George Harrison

In one way, we're on an upward swing. But at the same time there's still a lot of evil that
goes on in the world.
